Hazel’s 100th Birthday prompts a joyous musical celebration
New feature-length musical documentary streams this Valentine’s Day at 7:30 pm.
Hazel A Celebration: 100 Years in the Making takes an unprecedented journey through the creation of Mississauga, with musical performers connecting city building to their legendary former Mayor, Hazel McCallion, on the occasion of her 100th birthday!
“We are paying tribute to the woman who truly led the way in creating Mississauga and launched our vibrant arts and culture scene at the same time. The story of Hazel, Mary, Muriel Journeau, begins on Valentine’s Day, one hundred years ago today…”
So begins the story of Hazel McCallion, as told by her successor, Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie.

Undefeated and fondly known as the Hurricane, Hazel McCallion ran Canada’s newest, fastest growing big city for 36 years, establishing world marks and winning prestigious awards for outstanding leadership.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau appears offering best wishes for a happy birthday, noting that; “Throughout your career you have had many roles: mayor, business woman, chancellor, dedicated volunteer, and something that has never changed is that you always worked for and with the people of your community. Thank you for all your contributions to Mississauga, Ontario and your country.”
This new 100-minute musical documentary, celebrates the one of a kind story of Hazel McCallion with over 160 musical performers who love her.
“There is so much love for Hazel and her accomplishments. I think this program will bring tears to the eyes of many people.” says Ron Duquette, “Hazel” writer/producer, and a long-time friend.
Ontario’s Lieutenant Governor, Elizabeth Dowdeswell is pleased to add, “She’s a trailblazer, innovator, forever young, forever dedicated to strengthening her beloved community of Mississauga, and so as the Queen’s representative in Ontario, it’s my joy to wish Hazel McCallion a happy birthday!”
Back in Hazel’s first campaign, she made a simple promise, “I assure you that I will give my very best to make sure that Mississauga will become a city second to none in Canada”
