Sauga Poetry took advantage of their MAC Poetry Event MicroGrant to develop monthly spoken word events at Studio 89. These events feature poets of all ages and levels of experience and are a safe space for diverse artists.
On Sunday, May 21, they hosted their very first open mic at Studio 89. With over 30 attendees and 16 open mic performances from poets of all ages and levels of experience, the launch was an incredible success. The night’s featured performer was the talented Andrea Josic – a queer, Mad, award-winning Bosnian-Canadian poet, performer, journalist, and arts educator based in the GTA who has been competing in international poetry slams for 6 years.
Sauga Poetry will be hosting monthly open mic events, with the next being on Sunday, June 18, 2023 at Studio.89 featuring Shelly Grace. Those interested in performing can sign up to do so at the door before the show.
