Project: Children’s Book, Professional Development
“A beautiful celebration of girls who spill outside set boundaries and their powerful flowing voices. You will fall in love with irrepressible Rudy and this howlingly sweet, roaringly sonic debut.”
– Kyo Maclear, author of The Wish Tree
Author Sahar Golsan used her MAC Career MicroGrant to launch her debut children’s book So Loud. The book is about the power of being loud and finding your voice. Sahar uses her own Iranian background to tell the story of main character Rudy who gains inspiration from her grandma Māmān Bozorg. With its colourful pages and dynamic illustrations (by Shiva Delsooz) this hardcover book encourages children to be themselves no matter the outside influences.
So Loud! is available in Canada at various local independent bookstores across the GTA. On April 23, 2024, the book will also be available in the US online and in-store.
Sahar’s MicroGrant is also supporting her professional development through mentorship and advancement in audio recording, documentary filmmaking, and creative writing.
Sahar is a writer, language learner, and the director of the short documentary KAR (2019). She is a winner of the Marina Nemat Award for Creative Writing in Non-Fiction and a recipient of the Air Canada Short Film Award. Her writing has appeared in Room, Taclanese, The Ex-Puritan, Shameless, The Ampersand Review, and Tongues: On Longing and Belonging through Language.

“I’m so pleased to receive a MicroGrant to sustain my writing and documentary practice. One aspect of the project that I’m very excited about is the opportunity to celebrate the launch of my debut picture book called So Loud! The book will be released on March 19, 2024 with Annick Press and I’m thrilled to get to share the book with the local community in Mississauga.”
