On September 25, 2024, arts leaders across Mississauga cheered as City Council approved the Subcommittee of Council – Arts, Culture, and Festival Groups’ recommendations, approving $4.5 million in new funding for the Arts, Culture, and Heritage sector.
These recommendations were influenced by impactful presentations from more 25 Arts, Culture, and Heritage groups and festivals in August and September 2024.
MAC first advocated for change on June 19, 2024, and united the arts sector through weekly Dream Out Loud Zoom calls over the summer. These sessions fostered discussions on key issues, funding in an ideal world, and pathways to positive change. We are incredibly proud of the entire arts sector for working together to bring about the unprecedented funding increase for the arts in Mississauga.
Thank you to City Council for recognizing the value of the arts, and raising our sector’s funding up to be 1% of the City’s operating budget. It means the world to us, and allows our sector to give back even more to the residents of Mississauga.
