Mississauga Arts Council’s Sauga Neighbourhood Arts Program (SNAP!) distributes $78,500 to creative events in every Ward in Mississauga!

Mississauga, ON – November 5, 2024

Mississauga Arts Council (MAC) is pleased to announce the resounding success of the Sauga Neighbourhood Arts Program (SNAP!) program, a new co-funding initiative designed to support community-led arts programs and bring more creative events to residents of Mississauga in celebration of Mississauga’s 50th Anniversary in 2024. In its inaugural year, the program has made a significant impact, distributing $78,500 to creative events in every Ward in Mississauga, fostering artistic innovation and cultural enrichment across the city.

“This program exceeded our expectations. We had 53 applications and provided financial support to 38 community art projects across all disciplines and Wards in the city – made possible by generous contributions from local businesses and residents at our annual MACsquerade Arts Fundraiser,” says Mike Douglas, MAC’s Executive Director, “All are invited to join us for an unforgettably fun evening in support of vital ArtsCare programming at the MACsquerade Disco Inferno! “The success of SNAP! is a testament to the creative ambitions of community groups and organizations that have incorporated the arts into their neighbourhood celebrations for Mississauga’s 50th Anniversary,” says Susan Durnin, MAC’s Administration Lead, “We are grateful to our artists, partners, and community groups who have made this success possible.”

SNAP! Spotlight Stories & Testimonials

Frog in Hand used their SNAP! funds to support their 2024 Summer Company, an annual paid training and performance opportunity for youth dancers and production workers. The program engaged 10 youth dancers, and 2 emerging production workers alongside artists from Frog in Hand’s own company. 

SNAP! allowed us to put our work in public space, creating new audiences and an appetite for the arts,” says Colleen Snell, Artistic Director, Frog in Hand & SNAP! Glimpse Productions used their SNAP! funding to produce Glimpse Into the Heart of a Singer-Songwriter LIVE on August 30, 2024, at the Rec Room Square One, which brought together local talent and over 120 attendees in a celebration of Mississauga’s singer-songwriter community. 

SNAP! funding allowed me to pay fair wages to seven musical acts, as well as six additional musicians,” says Rob Aguiar, Promoter & Educator, & SNAP!
